Discovering the Magic of Lake Garda
Surrounded by some of Italy’s top wine producing areas, Lake Garda is also famous for its lemons, olive oil, and freshwater fish which can be sampled in local cuisine. Visiting an olive oil estate to see how it is bottled can be fascinating for children too. The area bordering the south of Lake Garda enchants visitors with its multitude of activities to choose from. Its shoreline stretches almost 160 kilometres and is dotted with gelato-coloured buildings and tightly packed villages cradled by the surrounding mountains. Most lakeside towns and villages have small beaches or swimming areas suitable for children while larger beaches often have pedal boats and windsurfers. Enjoy a family visit to the picturesque spa town of Sirmione, crossing the moat by footbridge to explore the ramparts of the fairytale 13th century Scaligeri Castle. To experience the stunning 360-degree views from the top of Monte Baldo by rotating cable car, depart from Malcesine after looking around its impressive castle houses and natural history museum. Gardaland is one of several theme parks offering a great day out with its 40 rollercoaster and water rides, a sea life aquarium and live shows. The magic of a family holiday in Italy would not be complete without treating everyone to an authentic pizza and the very best gelato.
