CENTRAL AMERICA, BELIZE
The Adventurous Secrets
of Belize

If in search of a holiday with real diversity and adventure to please all the family, Belize remains a secret destination offering the chance to enjoy incredible jungle wildlife, paddling in canoes, scrambling up Mayan ruins and cooling off under waterfalls, exploring magnificent corals and dive sites or swimming with turtles. Belize offers a sense of adventure to create lasting memories for every family member.

As one of the smallest Central American countries, tourism is refreshingly underdeveloped as adventurers favour the better-known destinations. Belize is an undiscovered paradise offering everything a family seek in an outdoor adventure holiday. The beaches of Belize are spectacular for swimming, even safe for little ones, and scuba diving with colourful reef fish to diving the Blue Hole, there is ample variety of dive sites to suit all levels. Beach accommodation comes in all budgets from boutique resorts to simple beach bungalows.

Heading inland, the jungle promises a great off-grid experience in remote but comfortable lodges where you have the chance to get up close and comfortable with nature and local wildlife. The rainforest is dense, lush and filled with the vibrant colours of the Keel-billed toucan and the scarlet macaw. The highland area to the west of Belize is where you can take your adventure to new heights with a stay in one of the ecolodges of Cayo district with its powerful waterfalls and remote caves to explore. Mountain biking and horse riding are also great ways to discover the raw and lush beauty of this country.

By contrast a trip to Orange Walk district in the north of Belize takes all Indiana Jones fans to the incredibly preserved Mayan pyramids of Caracol and Xunatunich. A scenic boatride up the Belize New River is a great adventure into the Mesoamerican jungle shrouded ruins of Lamanai, famous for its incredible architecture and stunning location on the edge of the New River Lagoon. Distances across the country are short and it’s easy to experience all the contrasts and adventures Belize offers on a two-week vacation.
